Build a wind turbine - Things to consider
By marie17183
Did you know that
wind turbines can reduce your electricity by up to 70% cutting down
significantly the amount of money you spend on energy bills. Of course, we have
to take into account other factors involved in producing energy through
renewable sources; such as average wind speeds, size of the generators etc, but
even providing a little bit of free energy for your home can make a difference for those already overstretched
finances. This article will give you some ideas about what to consider when you want to learn how to build wind turbines for the home
What type of wint turbine can I build?
The good news is that with developing technology wind turbines can be built at any size and any location. Depending on the type of wind generator that is built, you can even have small compact wind generators in even the most densely populated areas. This not only helps reduce electricity bills, but it also helps the local environment by reducing the amount of damaging pollution in the environment.
Buying Wind Turbines vs building your own turbine
Why are people more interested in wind generators now? Obviously the rise in energy bills is one big factor, but also the cost of such generators have decreased significantly in recent years. In order for wind generators to be appealing for the residential purchasers, the return on investment needs to be worth it. Buying a generators that costs $20,000 will have such a long payback period people are just not going to consider it. If on the other hand an initial outlay of $1,000 to $2,000 for a residential wind turbine was the norm, the payback period would be much more appealing.
Wint turbines can be built cheaply
There is of course another element to wind energy. A lot of the plans used to build these can be adapted to use much cheaper components than commercially available wind turbines. Such things as old air conditioning fans can be recycled to be used as the turbines for the generator. The motor and altimeter can be salvaged from scrap yards or bought cheap in hardware stores; and the pole used to mount the turbine, well, anything can be used for that. All these components can further reduce the initial outlay, sometimes to as little as $100. That would mean the payback period would be less than a year.
Building a wint turbine - the costs involved
If you are seriously considering using a wind generator to reduce the amount you pay for your energy then you need to take into account the cost of the initial purchase. How long do you want for your money to me paid back? The more expensive the turbine, the longer the payback period. Do you really want to build your own turbine? It saves an awful lot of money but you will need proper plans so build it. Do you really need the amount of energy commercial turbines produce? They cost a lot of money to buy, but they generally produce more energy because they are bigger. Even generating a small amount of energy from a turbine can make a difference to the amount of money you pay for your energy.
