If you were like me during pregnancy you would have been staggered by the weight you put on. My main worry for when after the baby was born was how to lose baby weight after this baby is born. As a new mother I hardly had the time to go to the toilet let alone find time for the gym.
Why do you gain weight during pregnancy?
Your body requires extra calories to help your baby grow, usually about 100-300 calories extra a day depending on your weight before pregnancy. The problem is 100-300 calories is not much at all.
When I was pregnant all I craved was high calorie, low nutrition foods such as biscuits and cake. There are plenty of products out there that could have helped me lose weight. I bought DVD's, exercise equipment (which of course never got used because I just didn't have the time), diet plans that didn't work because they left me with no energy; and the list goes on. Eventually I came to the conclusion that keeping it simple was the best solution. Over complicating things only made things more stressful and tiring, which made me less inclined to lose weight. I just bought a simple book, that was it. I accepted that long term weight loss, especially around the belly, meant taking things slow. I changed habbits. Instead of driving to the shop I'd take baby in the stroller. It was only a 20 minute walk away, but you'd be surprised how much weight you actually lose just doing simple things like that. Another positive side effect was that as I was exercising more, I had more energy. I also felt a lot happier with myself.
